Original Art

I express everything my six senses (yes, I have six) bring to me through creating art. The profound act in expressing color and movement and bringing it to life in concrete form is an exhilarating rush. I believe our creator finds joy in us when we create something. It is a gift that was given to all of us. This gift enriches our lives and leaves our individual stamp upon the world. It makes no difference what our creative mark may be, it has its impact.

The gardener brings growing things that delights the eye…enriches the earth with oxygen and feeds us with the harvest. This is one of the ultimate art forms. How wonderful to put a seed in the ground and watch it spring into a tree that lasts for many generations. It is enjoyed long after the person leaves the earth. Art is similar. As artists we have a seed in our subconscious that grows to life and our art form is born. Each is as unique as a flower or a fingerprint.

When I paint I get totally lost in the process. I have no concerns about my hair, the weather or the laundry. I immerse myself physically, emotionally and spiritually, swimming in my gift and feeling a rush that surpasses any intoxicant. I cannot imagine any chemical that can duplicate that feeling. I am only aware of the passage of time when my muscles start to ache. Each creation is of the deepest part of me and I wish to impart that to the viewer in hopes it will take them to wonderful places in their minds. I shy away from dark paintings. I have been told when I create one of these it makes the viewer very uncomfortable. I want only to enlighten and take the viewer to a peaceful spot. I meditate before and during the process. Many times after I have finished a piece I sit in the dark and study it. I prop it up on the fireplace mantle that has track lighting and drink it in. I get a feeling of being pulled into the painting.

Oh! the exhilaration, excitement and the joy of creating. I have a tiny inkling of what God felt when he created all and said it was good. The emotion of looking at something that did not exist before you brought it to concrete existence is an awesome feeling. It is the time I feel closest to my creator. It is all about the journey.
